The Twilight Saga Eclipse has opened, taking in nearly seventy million dollars on the day of the film's debut. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner all return. Chris Brown broke down during the Michael Jackson tribute portion of the recent BET Awards. Steve Carell announced he's leaving The Office after the upcoming season. Larry King has announced he's hanging up the suspenders at CNN after 25 years of Larry King Live. Mel Gibson's former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva says the actor assaulted her during an argument. So let's break it down - Eclipse has already broken three major movie release records including widest domestic release of all time, the greatest EVER midnight opening, and the biggest Wednesday debut of all time. Even so, Eclipse didn't beat the records of Twilight or New Moon for opening day numbers, but the 30 million bucks the film earned at a midnight showing is covering for all of that. Some are speculating that if the film would've been released on a Friday, all records across the board would've been broken. Either way though, tons of you guys were likely able to hit up the late night showings since school is out. And let's not forget that a bunch of theaters added 3am showings to fulfill the huge desire for tickets to the opening night show. Yep, it's the truth. "Despicable Me," with stars the voices Steve Carell, Russel Brand and Miranda Cosgrove. But don't get too teary eyed just yet. Although Eclipse dropped down to second place, it still managed to pull in 33.4 million dollars, pushing it to first place in a different category. Overall, Eclipse is now officially the top-grossing film from the Saga franchise. It's currently leading New Moon by a measly 2 million bucks...but there is still time for that margin to grow a whole lot more. I'm your host Dana Ward. So, New Moon opened with a 142.8-million-dollar domestic opening - impressive box office results, by any standards. In fact, it's been all over the news how this Twilight follow-up had such fanatical fans as well as cultlike appeal, that it just must have set records with its first weekend sales. Especially after it's opening day and midnight showing results - 72.7-mil and 26.3-mil respectively - which apparently shattered all-time records. But now industry insiders are speaking out to clear up the confusion. Apparently, New Moon did not break the big-time record at the box office for opening weekend, on a whole.
